I Have More Than A Day - 1307 Words

â€Å"It is hot, but you feel hotter because you’re pregnant.† Joan understood the discomfort of strolling along in the heat during an advanced state of pregnancy all too well. Carina was due to deliver within a week or so, and Joan wagered her friend would be happy to get it all over with, just as Joan had been. They arrived at the market and headed straight for the herb and oil tent, which offered shade from the relentless sun. Carina paused and sniffed a bottle. â€Å"Oh, field balm. Nice and minty. I might†¦ Ooo!† She clutched her belly and her face screwed up in pain. â€Å"That hurt.† â€Å"Uh oh.† Percy fussed and Joan bounced him lightly. â€Å"It’s time, isn’t it?† â€Å"Probably not. Now?† His voice sounded a little shaky and wild. Mary groaned. â€Å"Yes, this is it and no, you cannon stay! It was bad enough when Perceval remained and I cannot allow it. I will not allow it, young man. Find yourself a place to wait, preferably away from the castle.† Ulrich dressed with haste and ignored Mary. â€Å"Carina, do you want me to stay? I would like to.† â€Å"No, I think you should go. After I saw what happened with Perceval collapsing and all†¦Ã¢â‚¬  She walked up to him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. â€Å"I’ll be fine. The ladies are here for me.† Ulrich cupped Carina’s face and gazed into her eyes. â€Å"All right. But I’ll be just outside the door in case you change your mind.† During the whirlwind of activity setting up for the birth, Perceval arrived to collect Percy from Joan. â€Å"I just spoke with Ulrich out in the hall,† said Perceval. â€Å"He’s worried and wants to be here.† â€Å"Mary doesn’t want –† Mary cut off Joan. â€Å"No, Mary does not want! I want a calm environment without agitated, fainting men standing in my way.† Perceval pulled a face and strode from the room with Percy in his arms. Hours passed and Joan sat at Carina’s side as her best friend breathed and howled her way through the worst of the pains. â€Å"Joan! I am never doing this again,† shrieked Carina. â€Å"Fuuucckk!!† â€Å"I know, my friend.† A moment later, the door burst open and Ulrich marched in, red-faced, running
